On 9 January, President Edgars Rinkēvičs visited the Cēsis Correctional Institution for Juveniles and took part in a discussion with young detainees organised by the association "Bona fide Latvia".
The Head of the Prison Administration, Colonel Dmitrijs Kaļins, briefed the President on the current infrastructure and capacity of the Cēsis Correctional Institution for Juveniles, as well as its development plans.
“Modern, standards-compliant prison infrastructure, together with support programmes for the resocialisation of detainees, are the crucial factors in fostering young people’s ability to reintegrate into society,” said President Edgars Rinkēvičs following the meeting. The President also emphasised the importance of developing the Prison Administration's human resources alongside improvements to infrastructure projects.
