On 9 March, President Edgars Rinkēvičs visited the inpatient facility “Tuberculosis and Lung Disease Centre” of Riga East Clinical University Hospital and familiarised himself with the work of the hospital.
“The hospital employs highly qualified medical staff and has modern diagnostic and treatment equipment, however, the premises are morally and physically outdated. In order to ensure a successful treatment process, it is essential to provide appropriate conditions that support recovery. The construction of the new Pulmonary Health and Infectious Diseases building and the relocation of the hospital’s functions will be a step that improves both the care environment for patients and the working conditions for medical staff,” said the President after his visit.
The President visited the pulmonary diseases clinic, the thoracic surgery department, as well as the operating theatre and the endoscopy department. During the visit, President Rinkēvičs discussed with the hospital’s management and the Chair of the Board of Riga East University Hospital the progress of construction of the new Pulmonary Health and Infectious Diseases building.
