President of Latvia Egils Levits met with Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament (EP) today to discuss various aspects of European Union (EU) policies, European security and geopolitical environment. Both officials stressed the unity between EU member states in challenging geopolitical times, and the need to continue and expand strategic support for Ukraine.
Meeting also focused on public debate in member states and greater involvement in EU-level decision making. ‘Political communication and education about the work of European Parliament is crucial for greater acceptance by people and willingness to engage with EP through dialogue with national politicians and elections,’ President of Latvia said. According to President Metsola, EP will conduct a special citizens’ dialogue – European Conferences – in early December during which European officials will respond to initiatives suggested by citizen.
