Latvijas un Šrilankas delegācijas pie sarunu galda

On 21 September, in New York, President of Latvia Egils Levits met with President of Sri Lanka Gotabaya Rajapaksa to discuss the 25 years of diplomatic cooperation between countries and future prospects.

With regard to future cooperation, President of Sri Lanka expressed country’s interest in transferring Latvia’s biological farming and digital transformation experience. Both asides also agreed to expand tourism cooperation once the pandemic is over.

President of Latvia praised education cooperation with Sri Lanka and noted intense interest of its students to pursue education in Latvia.

Given shared vision of both countries on international agenda, President Levits invited Sri Lanka to support Latvia’s candidacy for the seat of a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2026–2027.
