Raimonds Vējonis
Vašingtonā notiks trīs Baltijas valstu prezidentu un ASV prezidenta Donalda Trampa tikšanās
“Latvia and the United States have always been close strategic partners in addressing regional and global security issues.

I am pleased with the intense political dialogue with the US administration that has taken place in the previous year. This has significantly contributed to US support for the security and defence of Latvia and the Baltic States,” stressed President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis during his meeting with US Deputy Secretary of State John J. Sullivan at the Riga Castle on Thursday, 22 February 2018.

During the meeting, the officials discussed the possibilities to strengthen the cooperation in security and defence further on. The summit of the Presidents of the three Baltic States and President of the United States Donald Trump in Washington on 3 April 2018 will be devoted to the centenary of the founding of the Baltic States and will enable the discussion of the deepening the relations between the Baltic States and the United States in security, economy, and education at the highest level. The economic cooperation between Latvia and the United States is getting more and more intensive, especially in investment, innovation, and start-ups. “We are convinced that the Baltic-US summit will be significant in order to further deepen economic cooperation between Latvia and the United States,” noted the President of Latvia.

In its turn, while discussing the situation regarding the report of the US Finance Department on the AB.LV bank, Raimonds Vējonis noted, “It is essential for Latvia to restore the reputation of our financial sector. Work will continue to build a strong and well-monitored financial sector. It is essential for the Latvian authorities to work closely with the US authorities to investigate the case comprehensively and bring the perpetrators to justice.”

"We are convinced that the Latvian government and banking regulator have full determination to take all necessary actions for the adjustment of the banking sector. The United States will continue providing all the necessary assistance to the Latvian authorities,” stated US Deputy Secretary of State John J. Sullivan.
