On 8 April, the Riga Castle will host a discussion on the future development of public broadcasters in Latvia. This discussion has been initiated by President Edgars Rinkēvičs to address current issues regarding the merger of public broadcasters, the governance and editorial independence of public broadcasters, and the transition of public broadcasters to content production in the official state language from 1 January 2026.

The discussion will be attended by the President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs, Minister of Culture Agnese Logina, representatives of the Saeima factions, heads of Saeima committees and subcommittees related to media policy and security, representatives of the Ministry of Culture, members of the Public Electronic Mass Media Council and the National Electronic Mass Media Council, the Media Ombudsman, leadership of public broadcasters, media content editors and managers, as well as representatives of journalist organisations and media experts.

The discussion will be streamed live on the website of the Chancery of the President of Latvia www.president.lv and on the portals LSM.lv and Delfi.
