President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs will pay a working visit to the United States of America on 17-28 September to attend the opening of the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly in New York and the 75th Anniversary Congress of the Americal Latvian Association in Washington. President of Latvia, together with Latvian companies, will also have several meetings in Los Angeles and San Diego focused on defence cooperation and dual use technologies, biomedicine, startups and film industry.
President Rinkēvičs will start the working visit of the United States on 18 September by giving a speech and engaging in discussions held in scope of the 75th Anniversary Congress of the American Latvian Association in Washington.
President of Latvia intends to address the UN General Assembly on 23 September, at around 16:15 Latvian time. In his speech, Edgars Rinkēvičs will pay special attention to Russian aggression against Ukraine, threats to the international rules-based order and hybrid threats to Latvia and wider region. President will also attend the meeting of UN Security Council. Participation in the UN General Assembly session will include the annual meeting between presidents of the Baltic States and UN Secretary General António Guterres, and a meeting with President of Poland Karol Nawrocki. In addition, Edgars Rinkēvičs will also have a number of bilateral meetings with leaders of other countries and interviews with the United States and international media. President of Latvia has also been invited to a reception in honour of the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly hosted by HE President of the United States of America Donald Trump and the First Lady Melania Trump.
From 24 September, President Rinkēvičs and Latvian business delegation will have several meetings with American companies in Los Angeles and San Diego. These events are expected to promote business to business cooperation and strengthen the presence of Latvian companies on one of the world’s largest and most competitive markets.
On Sunday, 27 September, President of Latvia will attend the 75th Anniversary of the Latvian School in Los Angeles and meet with the Latvian community living in the United States.
