Eiropas dienā 21 ES dalībvalsts prezidenti aicina balsot Eiropas Parlamenta vēlēšanās
On Thursday, 9 May 2019, when celebrating the Day of Europe, the flag of the European Union (EU) was raised at the Tower of the Holy Spirit of the Riga Castle.

In their turn, in response to an incentive of Federal President of Germany Dr Frank Walter Steinmeier, the Presidents of 21 EU Member States have united in a joint call to EU citizens to participate and vote in elections to the European Parliament.

“Let us celebrate the Day of Europe together, because all of us, the citizens of the EU Member States, share common values ​​of freedom, equality, solidarity, democracy, and justice. And only together, we can ensure peace, prosperity, and a better future for European citizens,” stressed the President of Latvia.

Having joined the incentive, President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis notes, “With our vote in the elections to the European Parliament, we will determine the future of entire Europe and increase Latvia’s opportunities in the family of European countries.”

Presidents of 21 EU Member States including Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Germany, Estonia, Ireland, Greece, France, Croatia, Italy, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary, Malta, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia, and Finland, state, “We cannot and should not take peace and freedom, prosperity and well-being for granted. It is necessary that we all engage actively for the great idea of a peaceful and integrated Europe.”

“We all agree that European integration and unity are essential and that we want to continue Europe as a Union. Only a strong community will be able to face up to the global challenges of our time. The effects of climate change, terrorism, economic globalisation, and migration do not stop at national borders. We will only meet these challenges successfully and continue on the road to economic and social cohesion and development by working together as equal partners at the institutional level,” stated the Joint Call of 21 Heads of State of EU Member States.

“Our united Europe needs a strong vote by the peoples. This is why we call on you to exercise your right to vote. It is our common European future that is on the ballot,” emphasised the Heads of State of EU Member States.
