Toms Torims, Daugavpils University Council member nominated by the President of Latvia, contacted President Levits yesterday to report circumstances that are unacceptable to Mr Torims, rendering his further services on the council impossible and incompatible with his official duties as a member of the Council of Daugavpils University (DU). President of Latvia received an official resignation letter, explaining the circumstance, from Mr Torims today.
‘You may recall my previous warnings about the composition and practices of DU Council, which prevent me from exercising the mandate given by You and progress towards the overarching objectives. Council will not be efficient, effective or change-oriented as long as some of its members have direct or indirect conflict of interest because they come from leading positions in the DU administration. In the light of these circumstances, please accept my immediate resignation from the Council of DU,’ Toms Torims underlines in the letter.
