On 28 November, President of Latvia Egils Levits, in scope of state visit to Israel, after meeting with President of Israel Isaac Herzog, met with Israel’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Israel Yair Lapid. Meeting focused on cooperation in areas like green energy, IT and other exporting sectors. Other issues discussed by officials included Middle East Peace Process. Egils Levits praised Israeli Prime Minister for achieving deeper EU-Israel dialogue.
Egils Levits also met with Yoel Razvozov, Israel’s Minister of Tourism, to discuss how to bring back tourist flows between Latvia and Israel. This also applies to medical tourism and ecotourism. According to President Levits, this will be one of the tasks of Latvian Investment and Development Agency Trade Mission in Israel.
President of Latvia met with Mickey Levy, Speaker of Israel’s parliament, Knesset. He emphasised that, as democratic parliamentary countries, Latvia and Israel both support similar values. Both officials spoke eloquently of the importance of parliamentary dialogue between Latvia and Israel in building closer bilateral relations. Meeting also focused on security and joint support to Ukraine.
Meeting with Benjamin Netanyahu, designate Prime Minister of Israel, focused on deepening of business cooperation. Geopolitical challenges require additional investments in defence, President Levits and Prime Minister Netanyahu both agreed, therefore Latvia and Israel should expand their cybersecurity cooperation.
