 Trīs jūru iniciatīvas (TJI) Biznesa foruma noslēgumā Valsts prezidents Egils Levits Rīgas pilī tikās ar Google viceprezidentu Karanu Bhatiu (Mr Karan Bhatia)

President of Latvia Egils Levits received Mr Karan Bhatia, Vice-President, Government Affairs and Public Policy at Google, at the Riga Castle upon conclusion of the Three Seas Initiative (3SI) Business Forum. Purpose of the meeting was to discuss approaches in reaching higher digital literacy among population and 3SI civic society cooperation.

President of Latvia praised Google.org as an important support tool for NGOs active in the 3SI region in 2023. ‘We appreciate Google’s commitment to strengthening digital skills, i.e., promoting digital equality in our region. This will be an important tool,’ Egils Levits pointed out.

Central and Eastern Europe, including the 3SI region, has immense digital potential, underlined Google Vice-President Bhatia. ‘Countries with common goals and cooperation platforms make the region stronger,’ Google Vide-President said.

President of Latvia raised the issue of data security on online platforms and application of artificial intelligence in data mining and storage. President Levits also shared an observation that he has made. In Europe, discussions are becoming increasingly focused on protection of privacy of users of large online platforms.

Representatives of Google also told President of Latvia about cooperation with Latvian companies and various digital skills projects of technology giant targeting communities and SMEs.

In conclusion, Google’s Vice-President also explained how the company fights misinformation and cyberattacks from Russia on Ukraine.
