President of Latvia Egils Levits has awarded Certificate of Merit to Boriss Rezņiks in recognition of his unique personality. Mr Rezņiks name will be forever written in the history of Latvia for composing the anthem of freedom and independence, which brought all Baltic nations together in their strive for liberation: ‘We admire your invaluable contribution to the history of the Awakening and one of its defining moments, the Baltic Way. Your song ‘Baltic awakening’ united the three brotherly nations. It inspires and unites us each time we hear it. This song, along with other Latvian songs you composed for Eolika will forever remain in the collective memory of our nation. Thank you for everything you have done for Latvia,’ says the Certificate of Merit.
Composer will receive the certificate during a ceremony held in the Riga Castle on 3 September.
