Valsts prezidenta saruna ar Daugavpils kultūras jomas pārstāvjiem, visi sēž aplī

President of Latvia Egils Levits met with cultural sector representatives from Daugavpils at the Mark Rothko Art Centre on 4 April. Meeting focused on work of state city’s cultural institutions and organisations. ‘Daugavpils has bustling and diverse cultural scene. Thank you for being a part of cultural process that adds special character to Daugavpils!’ President of Latvia said.

Notably, three Latvian cities (Daugavpils, Liepāja and Valmiera) have applied for the second round of selection for 2027 European Capital of Culture in Latvia. One of them, Daugavpils, has also completed its application, which will now be reviewed by international jury comprised by European Commission.

Ukraine support concert in Daugavpils on 3 April was another issue discussed during the meeting. Various Latvian musicians took to the stage to show solidarity with Ukrainian people suffering the tragedy of war. President also visited Ukrainian art exhibition ‘In the draught’ currently displayed at the Mark Rothko Art Centre.

President of Latvia Egils Levits is on the regional visit to Daugavpils on 4-5 April. Tomorrow, on 5 April, President of Latvia will discuss Latgale’s development opportunities in the new geopolitical and economic conditions with leaders of Latgale planning region municipalities, debate constitutional values with youngsters during the ‘Imagining green future: today’s compromises for better future’, visit Daugavpils Secondary School 12 and company ‘Axon Cable’.
