On 27 November, President of Latvia Egils Levits took part in Latvia’s EXPO 2020 DUBAI national day events, including the Latvian Business Forum. ‘Latvia must seize every opportunity to show itself to new audiences around the world,’ said Egils Levits.

Latvia’s National Day events were attended by top United Arab Emirates officials, including Minister of Tolerance His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of State for International Cooperation Her Excellency Reem Ebrahim Al Hashimy, and Minister of State for Foreign Trade His Excellency Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi. President Levits congratulated UAE on Golden Jubilee and stressed the importance of LATVIA-UAE diplomatic relations established 26 years ago. Diplomatic ties between the two countries are consistently growing, especially since the opening of Latvian embassy in Dubai in 2014 and UAE embassy in Riga in 2017. President of Latvia also praised UAE’s rapid growth in the past five decades since the founding of the state.

‘Dubai has become a global centre and EXPO 2020 DUBAI is a great opportunity for Latvia to foster its growth, trade and investment cooperation, as well as showcasing Latvia’s business development potential, business acumen and innovative potential,’ President Levits noted.

President Levits opened UAE–Latvia Business Forum by thanking Latvian companies that have agreed to be a part of wide representation of Latvian businesses at the forum. Latvian delegation consists of companies active in key Latvian sectors such as ICT, transport and logistics, food industry, tourism, innovative building materials and technologies, pharmaceuticals and medical devices. ‘UAE is the most important trade partner of Latvia in the Gulf region. Our business cooperation has deepened despite the Covid-19 pandemic,’ Egils Levits said.

He invited entrepreneurs and investors from UAE to visit the Latvian pavilion and learn more about investment opportunities in Latvia, our national culture and future development visions.

President of Latvia concluded the National Day of Latvia at EXPO 2020 DUBAI by expressing pride about excellent Latvian artists  like Intars Busulis, Asnate and Aurēlija Rancānes and “Abonementa orķestri” (Subscription orchestra) for joining Latvia’s National Day at the Expo Dubai to give visitors exceptional musical performances.

Located in the Opportunity District of EXPO 2020 DUBAI, Latvian pavilion design concept is a collaboration between the Ministry of Economy and Latvian Investment and Development Agency (LIDA). National pavilion of Latvia has already been visited by 20 thousand visitors and more than 100 companies. According to Director of LIDA, EXPO 2020 DUBAI has opened new export and business opportunities for Latvian companies.
