On 7 October, President of Latvia Egils Levits visited the Riga City Council (RCC) and met with the new administration and committee leaders to exchange views on Riga’s development strategy, learn more about RCC’s good governance policy for the capital, investment attraction programmes, dialogue with public and non-governmental sector, mobility, infrastructure and other issues.

‘New Riga City Council’s first year in office has brought positive changes to the city: neighbourhood ambassadors are more involved in decision-making and good governance policy has been updated. Administration of Riga must now keep the momentum going to make sure positive changes in the first year continue for years to come,’ President of Latvia underlined.

Mayor of Riga City, Mārtiņš Staķis, presented an overview of changes implemented by the RCC over the first year. Mayor Staķis explained what the fiscal priorities of Riga are for the coming year and introduced envisaged activities in the field of education, mobility and climate neutrality goals, social assistance available to Rigans and future dialogue with neighbourhoods and their role in formulating budget priorities, infrastructure development.

Egils Levits presented the Presidential plaque to Mayor Staķis and RCC.

Other participants of the meeting from the RCC side included Inese Andersone, ,Chair of the City Development Committee, Edmunds Cepurītis, Chair of the RCC Housing and Environment Committee, Olafs Pulks, Chair of the RCC Transport and Traffic Committee, Viesturs Kleinbergs, Chair of the RCC Social Affairs Committee, Dainis Locis, Chair of the RCC Property Commission, Iveta Ratinīka, Chair of the RCC Education, Culture and Sports Committee, Rita Logina, Deputy CEO of Riga, and several heads of RCC departments.
