Egils Levits noliek ziedus Alberta Kviesa atdusas vietā

On 22 December, President of Latvia Egils Levits laid flowers at the grave of Alberts Kviesis at the Brethren Cemetery in Riga to commemorate the 140th anniversary of the man who served as the president of Latvia between 1930 and 1936.

‘Today we commemorate the third head of the Latvian State. Life of Alberts Kviesis follows the history of Latvian State, all the way through from proclamation to democracy, authoritarian years and both occupation periods. President Kviesis played enormous role in the founding and early development of the Republic of Latvia as one of the leaders of the People’s Council of Latvia and a man who became a minister under several democratic governments of Latvia. He was also instrumental in creating and furthering Latvia’s judicial system as a chair of the Judicial Council. Although some pages in his biography have raised questions, he undoubtedly was a great patriot of the Latvian State,’ President Levits stressed.
