During the meeting, the topical issues of national security were discussed. The President of Latvia thanked the Chairmen of the Committees for their active work on national security issues in the Saeima. E. Rinkēvičs also thanked for the support expressed in the conversation for the President's legislative initiatives to require that senior officials of local governments obtain special permits to access state secrets. The President discussed the potential risks of the use of artificial intelligence during the pre-election campaigning period, for example in the upcoming European Parliament or local elections.
During the meeting, the President of Latvia expressed his conviction that the readiness and resilience of the state and local administrations in the face of challenges play an important role in the defence and security of the country. Therefore, the issue of national crisis management and the necessary development of the civil protection system were also discussed. President Rinkēvičs also heard the views of the Chairmen of the Saeima Committees on the development of the remuneration system for the internal security services.
