Foreign policy Egils Levits
ES un Ukrainas karogi

On Tuesday, 14 February, President of Latvia Egils Levits will address the members of the European Parliament (EP) on Ukraine’s place in Europe and Russia’s accountability for crimes at EP plenary session in Strasbourg.

President Levits will make the address at 12:30 Latvian time (livestream).

‘Address by the President of Latvia at the European Parliament shortly before the first anniversary of Russian invasion of Ukraine will be a great honour. Latvia was one of the leading countries from day one and its unwavering support has largely helped shape the European Union (EU) policy response. It is crucial for Europe to be united on prosecution of Russia and ending war in Ukraine. We expect continued active engagement on the part of Latvia in shaping EU’s decisive actions,’ President of the EP Roberta Metsola said.

President Levits and President Metsola will hold a joint press conference prior to Egils Levits’ appearance at the EP plenary session.

‘I am deeply honoured to address MEPs in Strasbourg because they represent the public opinion of citizens of the EU. At this challenging time for European security, I will primarily focus my address to MEPs on Ukraine’s place in Europe, our common fight against Russian aggression in Ukraine and Russia’s responsibility for violations of international law. I will also focus on threats to democracy and strengthening of democracy in my speech,’ President of Latvia Egils Levits pointed out before leaving to Strasbourg.
