Background information:

In 2008, to honour the memory of preceding presidents of Latvia, the first President of the restored state of Latvia Guntis Ulmanis began the tradition of planting trees at Likteņdārzs. Guntis Ulmanis planted trees in honour of Jānis Čakste and Kārlis Ulmanis.

In 2022, Aigars Strupišs, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, planted a tree in honour of Alberts Kviesis, Ināra Mūrniece, Speaker of the Saeima, planted a tree in honour of Pauls Kalniņš, and Zbigņevs Stankevičs, Metropolitan Archbishop of Riga of the Roman Catholic Church, planted a tree in honour of Jāzeps Rancāns.

Trees have also been planted here by the Presidents of Latvia: Valdis Zatlers (in 2009), Andris Bērziņš and Raimonds Vējonis (in 2015), Vaira Vīķe-Freiberga and Egils Levits (in 2020) and Guntis Ulmanis (in 2022).

A tree to honour Gustavs Zemgals will be planted in September of this year by his great-grandson Mārtiņš Andersons.
