From 20 to 25 September, President Edgars Rinkēvičs will visit the United States to participate the opening of the 80th session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly.
The President's address to the UN General Assembly is scheduled for 24 September at 17.45 Latvian time. In his address, E. Rinkēvičs will focus in particular on the issue of Russia's aggression against Ukraine and the threat it poses to the rules-based international order. He will also address the situation in the Middle East and Latvia's forthcoming membership of the UN Security Council.
At the invitation of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the President of Latvia will participate in the International Crimea Platform Summit. During the UN General Assembly, the Presidents of the Baltic states will meet with UN Secretary-General António Guterres and Polish President Karol Navrocki. The President is scheduled to hold several bilateral meetings with leaders of other countries.
The President has been invited to attend a reception hosted by US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump to celebrate the opening of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly.
Before the opening of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, E. Rinkēvičs will meet with representatives of the Latvian diaspora.
