On 7 June, President of Latvia Egils Levits awarded Certificates of Merit to two outstanding personalities in Latvian culture - writer Ēriks Hānbergs and sculptor Arta Dumpe.
"Your contribution to Latvian culture combines writing and journalism. The candour, humanity, humour and work ethic that you put into your written word resonates in our society. Your words and books have inspired and empowered fellow human beings. Your contribution to Latvian culture is significant," said President of Latvia E. Levits to Ēriks Hānbergs.
"In the world of Latvian art, you are characterised by innovation, individual style and defiance. Your character-capturing portraits, figurative compositions and monumental images have become signs of the Latvian cultural era. You are an outstanding personality in Latvian sculpture. I would like to express my sincere gratitude for your lifelong contribution to Latvian sculpture and culture," is how the President of Latvia described the contribution of sculptor Arta Dumpe to Latvian culture.
