On 23 September, President of Latvia Egils Levits met with students and academic staff of the University of Michigan (USA). President underlined the key role of transatlantic cooperation in shaping future EU-US relations.

‘Our world is currently going through major changes, but our transatlantic bond is ‘rock solid’,’ President of Latvia said. United States of America and European Union should join their efforts to protect democracy and rule of law in future, stressed Egils Levits.

Discussion between President Levits and university’s law professors focused on digital law policies, approaches chosen by EU and US, and responsibility of legal experts for development of appropriate digital law policies.

President Levits answered questions about development of Latvia’s legal system, use of migrants in hybrid attacks launched by Belarus on Baltic and Polish borders, and other issues on the international agenda.
